Neat and Tangled Merry Bear Birthday Card…

Look at this adorable little snowman! It’s family birthday time again and our youngest grandson is turning two tomorrow!  Where does the time go?!

I wanted to play in the NBUS challenge with the option of color pencil on kraft.  I love how this almost looks like wood!

I stamped with the MISTI, colored with pencil, then went back and using the MISTI again, I left the stamps where they were, inked with black pigment embossing ink, stamped them and heat embossed them with black powder.

So many times when you color with pencils you lose the strong black line.  We used to do this years ago when Stampa Rosa had the House Mouse stamps. We would stamp them their stamp positioner, color them with Tombow markers and then come back and emboss them over the top of the marker coloring.  Amazing the difference.

Next time I am going to color the image right in the MISTI without moving the card-stock.  There was enough ‘user error’ this time that I had to stamp the bear a few times and ended up with a thicker black line then the stamp really has. grrr   Still cute though!

Hopefully we’ll get some snow for his birthday!  haha  It’s been a weird, rainy Winter for Iowa.  Not used to dark and dreary.  It’s usually bright with snow!  I’m sure we’ll get those Winters again.

Linking up to Darnell’s NBUS Challenge #8 – optional theme ‘use color pencils on kraft’

  1. Too cute. Love the rich colors.. The greeting really goes with the characters..
Hard to believe the little one is two. You do not have any babies now!

  2. Adorable Pam!!! Love your coloring and that little snowman the bear is holding. Stinkin’ cute!
    Thanks for sharing with us!!!

  3. I’m back…just wondering what color you used for your focal color. Is that Pistachio? And….can’t wait to hear your announcement!

  4. oh my goodness that is just the cutest, great idea to start off with the kraft cardstock, love the textured look in his fur. the snowman is adorable too and such a fun sentiment.
It has been a crazy winter so far hasn’t it.

  5. OMgoodness, Pam, this really wins the Cuteness Award! And your coloring on kraft is fantastic and that sweet little snowman ~ I’m in love!! Great tip regarding refreshing the outline, too. Years and years ago there was a women out here in CA who sold this quite-involved set of placement holders for restamping and her whole thing was to stamp once, color or paint, and then stamp again. That woman never made it in the business and it always makes me a little sad remembering her because she was just so SMART, you know, but just too far ahead of her time for people to listen to her.

Wait, am I still up? Am I rambling? So what else is new, haha! Thank you so much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #8! (I can’t believe you complained about not having a bright white winter! Haven’t you ever heard, “Be careful what you wish for?”! Hugs, Darnell

  6. Oh my that is just way too cute! I love your pencil coloring on the kraft! I want to do more of that! I want that bear stamp now too! haha! Thanks for the tip of stamping over and embossing! I didn’t know that! Such a great idea! Here’s hoping for snow and sunshine up there! 🙂

  7. Oh yes this is so cute – love the coloring pencils on kraft them going over and embossing it – brilliant idea, will have to try that. I’m ready for sunshine, don’t mind the cold jut need sunshine in my window vs. gray clouds.

  8. Oh Pam, He is so cute! I adore how you cut his hands out to place the snowman. Careful what you wish for… my son has 4 ft of snow. lol

  9. Absolutely adorable for your youngest grandson, Pam! I hope you got/get the snow you wanted ! I am sure he is going to love this sweet card!

  10. Hi Pam!
I haven’t colored on craft yet and received new Prismacolor pencils for Christmas. (My present to myself. Heehee!) This inspires me to “get the lead out” and start coloring. LOL! Anyway, beautiful birthday card and I’m sure the sweet grand will love it!
You’re right. It sure has been a weird winter here. (I’m just west of Des Moines.) Not much snow, but rainy dark days. Good for sleeping in though. (If only!)
    Thanks for the great inspiration!

  11. Ack! Too cute! A darling card for your little darling. I really, really, really love the minty green in the background. Neat idea to refresh the outline, too. I’ve never colored on kraft. Sometimes I’m slow to try new things, so I’m always kinda retro, sheesh. See, I should do this challenge, but I probably used up all my stamping time for the week. Hope the sun comes out for you soon!

  12. Hi Pam! OH is that ever the cutest little snowman! LOve the tip, and your pencil strokes DO indeed add a little ‘wood grain’ effect – always a bonus in my eyes! xx
